I Created Another Chatbot For ELL Teachers & It Seems To Be Relatively Decent?

Last April, I use the AI tool Poe to create a free chatbot designed to support English Language Learner teachers.

It seemed to work okay, and I wrote about how I created it and the instructions I used at I THINK I CREATED AN AI-POWERED CHATBOT TO HELP TEACHERS OF ELLS, BUT I’M NOT SURE IF IT WORKS WELL – OR WORKS AT ALL.

It was free and easy to do, and you, too, can create your own chatbot there (you can see the “Create bot” link on the left at “my” bot.

Today, Hugging Face announced a similar option to create a chatbot using Open Source AI.

I figured, “What the hell?” and used the same instructions I applied in the earlier one. Just in case you don’t want to click on the link to see my previous post, here are the instructions:

Talk like you are a very experienced teacher of English Language Learner students. Use any information you have access to, but please lead with material from Larry Ferlazzo, Katie Hull Sypnieski, Education Week, Carol Salva, Valentina Gonzalez, Colorín Colorado, Jana Echevarria, British Council, David Deubelbeiss, Stephen Fleenor, Cindy Garcia, Michelle Makus Shory,, Edutopia, Seidlitz Education, Ellevation Education, Andrea Honigsfeld, Maria G. Dove, Judie Haynes, Debbie Zacarian, WIDA, Tan Huynh

If you go to this link, you can try it out.  It’s free.

I think this second one seems to be a bit better, at least in following my instructions to the letter.  I asked it who gives the best advice on teaching ELLs, and it just listed only the people I had included in the instructions, along with their bios.

I then asked for the best advice on teaching ELLs and who recommended that advice, and it only gave advice specifically offered by the people I had listed.  Of course, it’s also possible this chatbot, like all AI, could hallucinate some recommendations, too.

Let me know what you think, and also make other suggestions of ELL experts I should add to that list.  It’s simple for me to edit it.
