Sandpaper is available in many grits, from very coarse to almost smooth. Find it at any hardware store, online, or even most dollar stores. And the best part is that the sandpaper in this project is reusable from year to year!
Class=”wp-block-heading”>Step-by-Step Directions

- Provide a variety of crayons or colored pencils for the students to use.
- Students draw or color on the paper to create their unique sandpaper art.
Class=”wp-block-heading”>Benefits of Preschool Sandpaper Art
Many preschoolers struggle with a weak grip, floating arm (when they don’t rest their wrist and elbow on the table when they write) and finger strength. This is a normal struggle for preschool children. A variety of art activities, such as sandpaper art, helps correct the issue. This art project benefits students as children must increase the pressure they use to color.
To see different results, children need to apply more pressure and use more strength. Kids often like to try coloring on fine and rough paper to see the differences. They will be creating, experimenting, and strengthening the small muscles in their hand…and all they’ll think is that they are having fun!
Build onto the fun!
