Three USAC Gwangju students’ dormitory and meal plan fees covered by CNU scholarship

University Studies Abroad Consortium (USAC) students Kalena Lee, Anahit Aharonyan, and Saki Takizawa have been awarded a scholarship that covers their entire dormitory and meal plan fees for their semester abroad. They will participate in the USAC Gwangju program in South Korea in Spring 2024.

Lee, from California State University, Fresno, and Anagit and Takizawa, both from Earlham College, were chosen by USAC’s partner university Chonnam National University (CNU) to receive the MERIT Scholarship. There are no separate applications for students interested in receiving this scholarship. Instead, the CNU exchange student application contains all materials used by the university to determine semester award recipients.

In CNU’s evaluation, each eligible student’s cumulative grade point average (CGPA), both English and Korean language proficiency test scores, and their study plans are all evaluated on a point-based system to determine five scholarship students each semester: CGPA (40 pts), Language scores (30 pts), Essay (15 pts), Study Plan (15 pts), Inbound Program participation (10 pts). An additional 10 points is awarded to students who are returning to CNU.

Additional scholarship opportunities can be found on the USAC Scholarships and Discounts page, including a list of External Study Abroad Scholarships & Databases. Gwangju is one of four partnership programs located in South Korea, visit USAC’s website for program details, deadlines, and to start an application to study abroad.
