Step 2: Prepare Your Workstation
Spread out some old newspapers or a plastic tablecloth to protect your work surface. This will make cleaning up a breeze, and you won’t have to worry about any messes. Make sure you have a cup of clean water for painting and some paper towels handy for drying brushes and wiping up spills.
Step 3: Create Your Heart Stencil
Take your recycled toilet paper roll and flatten it. Then, shape it into a heart by folding and bending it as needed. This will be your heart stencil, which your little ones can use to create perfect heart shapes.

Step 4: Dip and Stamp!
Now comes the fun part! Show your kids how to dip the open end of the toilet paper roll into a watercolor marker (or regular watercolors). Make sure it’s fully coated but not too drippy. Then, guide them to stamp it onto the white paper or cardstock.
Encourage them to stamp multiple hearts using different colors. It’s a great opportunity to explore color mixing and blending! The toilet paper roll makes it easy to create uniform heart shapes, even for little hands.
Step 5: Add Details
Once the hearts are stamped and dried a bit, let your kids use a paintbrush dipped in water to blend and spread the colors. This creates a beautiful watercolor effect. They can experiment with adding more color or water to achieve different looks.
Step 6: Cookie Cutter Magic
Repeat the process using a cookie cutter.
Step 7: Personalize Your Valentines
Let your kids get creative by adding messages or drawings around their watercolor hearts to turn them into adorable Valentine’s Day cards. You can help them write messages or draw pictures for loved ones.
And there you have it, an awesome, simple craft that anyone can make, especially as a Valentine’s Day card. Not only is it a fun and creative activity for your little ones, but it also makes heartfelt, personalized cards that grandparents, friends, and family will cherish.
So, grab those recycled toilet paper rolls, watercolor markers, and a cookie cutter, and get ready for some creative bonding time with your toddlers to kindergartners. Happy crafting and Happy Valentine’s Day!
