History department chair and AP US History teacher Susan King is currently listening to the “Hamilton” soundtrack by Lin Manuel Miranda.

“I love David Diggs, the guy who played Thomas Jefferson and Lafayette,” King said. “My favorite songs from the soundtrack are ‘Guns and Ships,’ ‘Rise Up,’ and ‘Yorktown’.”

This soundtrack has many different kinds of sounds from hip-hop, rap, R&B, soul, pop, and show tunes. This soundtrack teaches the life of Alexander Hamilton, including the American Revolution and the Constitutional Convention through a fun, entertaining story.

Lin Manuel Miranda is known for creating the two broadway musicals, “In the Heights” and “Hamilton,” along with creating the soundtracks for “Moana,” “Vivo,” and “Encanto.” Miranda is also an actor and a singer. Miranda has won three Tony Awards, two Primetime Emmy Awards, five Grammy Awards, and been nominated for two Academy Awards.

“Hamilton” won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and was nominated for a record 16 Tony Awards, winning 11 and later becoming a film.

“I think it is absolute genius the way Lin Manuel Miranda worked in so many historical elements and so much drama for such an unusual topic in a way that appealed to so many people,” King said.

The “Hamilton” soundtrack can be streamed on Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube, and the “Hamilton” film can be streamed on Disney+.
